Fatal Collision occurred during illegal street race; other vehicle fled the scene; white 2008 or newer Audi possible A4, male black driver

On Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at about 4:50PM, Gardena Police Officers received several 9-1-1 calls reporting a traffic collision near 155th Street / Vermont Avenue in the City of Gardena. The initial investigation revealed that the traffic collision occurred during an illegal street race which was initiated southbound on Vermont Avenue north of Redondo Beach Blvd. One of the vehicles (a black newer model Ford Mustang) involved in the race, collided with another vehicle traveling west on 155th Street at Vermont Avenue. The driver of the ford mustang was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in that vehicle was transported to a local hospital. Their condition is not immediately available.

The other vehicle involved in the street race fled the scene. Gardena Police Traffic Investigators are seeking the public’s help in locating and identifying the driver of the outstanding vehicle. The outstanding suspect vehicle is described as a 2008 or newer white Audi, possible model A4. The driver is a male black adult possibly in his 20’s. The vehicle fled south on Vermont Avenue.

Vermont Avenue from Redondo Beach Blvd to 161st Street is closed to all traffic for the next several hours in order for investigators to complete their investigation.
