License Plate Reader Technology Leads to Stolen Vehicle Recovery and Suspect Arrest

A Simi Valley Police Officer was responding to a call for service and driving in the 1000 block of Nonchalant Drive during the early evening hours when the License Plate Reader installed in his vehicle alerted to a stolen license plate on a vehicle parked in a driveway.

As the Officer turned around to investigate, the vehicle backed out of the driveway and parked in front of the residence. The occupants exited the vehicle and the Officer contacted the driver, Robert Segal, 33 years. The subsequent investigation revealed the vehicle to be a reported stolen out of LAPD's Devonshire Division.

Segal, a resident of Simi Valley and registered narcotics offender, was arrested for 10851 VC, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and booked at the Ventura County Main Jail without incident.
