Last Friday Mayor Roswarski administered the Oath of Office to Sergeant Brian Brown and Sergeant Michael Brown. The Lafayette Police Civil Service Commission promoted these new Sergeants after interviews were completed earlier this month. The promotional process at the Lafayette Police Department is very competitive with many qualified applicants competing amongst the ranks.

Sgt. Michael Brown is a native of Lafayette, Indiana. A graduate of Harrison High School, Sgt. Brown has an Associate Degree from Central Texas College. Sgt. Brown served in the United States Marine Corps for 10 years as a Military Police Officer and Criminal Investigator. After the Marines, Sgt. Brown has worked in the patrol division. He is a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Honor Guard member, and member of the Lafayette Police SWAT Team. Sgt. Brown is currently assigned as a patrol shift commander.

Brian “B.T.” Brown is originally from Crawfordsville, Indiana and is a 19 year veteran of the Lafayette Police Department. BT has served the last 14 years in the Investigations Division, having been assigned to both the Criminal Section and the Tippecanoe County Drug Task Force. He has served as DEA Task Force Officer, Field Training Officer, and on the Civil Disturbance Unit. He has provided training to many community groups on the subjects of Fraud and Narcotics awareness. Sgt. Brown is on track to receive his Bachelor Degree from Oakland City University this year. He also serves as District Director for National Barrel Horse Association.
