Pedestrian Struck on I-465; Suffers Minor Injuries
Indianapolis, IN- An Indianapolis woman is recovering at a local hospital after being struck by a semi-tractor trailer on I-465 late this morning.
At approximately 11:35 a.m. this morning, Indiana State Police troopers were dispatched to I-465 NB at the 14mm (near 10th Street) on the report of a pedestrian struck.
Preliminary investigation and witness accounts reveal that Carolyn Parks, 51, of Indianapolis was on the 10th Street overpass and walked down the embankment onto the right lane of I-465. A semi-tractor trailer traveling in the right lane swerved onto the emergency shoulder in an attempt to miss the pedestrian. The pedestrian was struck by the left side front bumper of the semi and she rolled under the box trailer.
Parks was transported to Eskenasi Hospital where she is being treated for a broken right arm. She reportedly suffered no further injuries. Troopers do not know at this time why Parks walked onto I-465. The truck driver was not injured.
The right lane of I-465 NB was closed at the crash scene area for approximately 45 minutes while the crash was investigated.
