More information on this morning's accident on IH27...no serious injuries reported, four accidents...

This morning between 7:28 AM and 7:55 AM, the APD responded to four accidents on northbound Canyon Drive between the exit ramp to IH-40 and the Washington and Parker area.  The initial accident was not in the roadway when the other accidents happened south of that location.  The other three accidents are listed as a four car with minor damage, an eight car with major damage, and the fourth also a two car with minor damage.   One person was transported to the hospital and one person along with two children arranged their own transportation for treatment.  Officers saw no visible injuries to any of these individuals.  APD Motorcycle Squad units were sent to assist in clearing the traffic problem.  Initial count is that six APD units aside from Motors responded to the scenes.  Traffic was affected for about two hours, with the last officer leaving the scene at about 9:23 AM.  Officers that responded believe that the angle of the early morning sun contributed to the accident.  No citations have been issued at this time.

Drivers that must take northbound IH-27 should be aware of the hazard the reduced visibility caused by the sun’s angle at this time of day can present.  Reduce your risk by slowing down and allowing extra space to react to traffic ahead.
