APD continuing investigation into Friday morning arrest of individuals cashing forged checks.

On Friday March 20th, at 11:12am, APD officers were sent to the Amarillo National Bank at 712 N Taylor on a forgery in progress. Responding officers were given updates on the description of the suspect and upon arrival to the bank, officers located a male suspect matching the description and he was taken into custody. It was later determined that this same suspect also cashed a forged check at the Amarillo National Bank at 2410 S Coulter. He is identified as Kurt Meadows W/M 48 from Houston. As the investigation continued, another report came in reference to a different forgery in progress at Amarillo National Bank at 410 S Taylor. Officers responded to that location where another individual was caught trying to cash a forged check. This individual was identified as Charles Wayne Manning W/M 53 also of Houston. Subsequent investigation indicated that these two individuals were recruited by individuals in Houston to come to Amarillo to cash forged/fake checks. Officers obtained a vehicle description and suspect descriptions were broadcast throughout Texas and the surrounding area. Meadows was booked on charges of Forgery of a Financial Instrument and an outstanding Parole Violation warrant. Manning was booked for Forgery of a Financial Instrument. Both were booked into Potter County Correction Center. Additional charges are possible on both individuals.

Friday afternoon, a DPS Trooper stopped the suspect vehicle near Iowa Park, Texas and detained 4 occupants. Troopers discovered evidence that tied the occupants to the forgeries in Amarillo and all four individuals were later booked on Money Laundering charges and the case remains under investigation.
