Connersville – Shortly before 9:25 a.m. this morning troopers responded to SR 1 at the Fayette-Wayne County Line, just north of Connersville, for a report of a dump truck rolled over in the roadway. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) Trooper Eric Thumb was nearby and responded to find a dump truck on its side in the roadway, and gravel from the truck spilled across the roadway.

The driver of the 2006 Volvo Dump Truck, Jeffrey M. Merritt, age 51 of Anderson, was transported from the scene to Fayette Regional Health Systems Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, a complaint of shoulder and rib pain. Preliminary investigation revealed the south bound dump truck drove off the right side of the highway for an unknown reason, and turned over on its side as the driver attempted to get it back onto the roadway.

SR 1 was blocked for one and a half hours as crews worked to upright the truck and remove the gravel from the roadway.  Traffic had to be diverted west onto Beeson Station Road during the road closure. Trooper Thumb was assisted at the scene by Davis Towing and Fayette County EMS, and with traffic direction by Trooper Paul Harrison.
