Two street racers arrested after causing accident; HCSO reminds you that street racing is illegal

*Please note Mr. Osullivan's age is 43 not 23 as previously reported.

(HOUSTON, TX) - HCSO deputies arrested two men who witnesses say were street racing when they caused a major accident in west Harris County.

Cory Schneider, 22, and Eric Osullivan, 43, were charged with Racing on a Highway and booked in to the Harris County Jail.

According to witnesses, both men were racing along Katy Fort-Bend Road on Wednesday, March 18, when one of them hit a third vehicle. The driver of that vehicle was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The HCSO reminds you that street racing is illegal.

Street racing is a class B misdemeanor, with maximum punishment of a $2,000 fine, 180 days in jail and driver’s license suspension.

Repeat offenders can be charged with a second degree felony, which could result in up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

In street racing, passengers can be punished as severely as the driver. Spectators can also be fined.

The crime also becomes a felony if the street racing results in serious bodily injury or death.
