Advisory

Health advisory issued due to Smoke in the Area

A fire was reported to the Alamance County Communications Center last night, March 19th, at

about 11:27pm.  The fire is in the area of northeast Burlington; north of Sharpe Rd and east of Lower Hopedale Rd. There is a fair amount of smoke in the area due to the fire.  Because the fire includes tires and shingles, the Alamance County Fire Marshal expects the fire to burn for several days.

According to the Alamance County Health Department, smoke from tires and shingles can be unhealthy to breathe, particularly for children, elderly, and those with respiratory conditions such as asthma or emphysema. Potential health effects include: lung and eye irritation, headache, dizziness, asthma attacks, and coughing.

If possible, stay out of the area where the fire is burning.  In order to prevent breathing in the smoke, keep windows and doors closed.
