Semi Roll Over Carrying Cheese Closes Ramp

Lake County-A semi tractor carrying a load of cheese rolled over this morning closing the I-65 north bound to I-80 east bound ramp during morning rush hours.

At approximately 4:37 a.m., this Friday, March 20, 2015, Trooper Nick Daly responded to a minor personal injury crash on the I-65 north bound to I-80 east bound ramp. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Volvo semi tractor pulling a box trailer, owned by Cresco Capital Incorporated out of Flint, Michigan and driven by Brandon Madison, 35 of Munford, Alabama, almost missed his exit. Evidence at the scene showed that the semi tried exit to the ramp by crossing over into the gore area (this is the white striped area that separates the ramp and the mainline interstate), without properly slowing down, and causing his load to shift. This caused the semi to roll over onto its driver’s side blocking access to the ramp.

The semi was loaded with approximately 40,000 pounds of cheese. The load will have to be off loaded before the semi can be uprighted. The cheese is contained inside the trailer.

Madison was taken to Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Hobart with minor injuries. He will be cited for Unsafe Lane Movement.

Motorists can expect this ramp to be closed for several hours. Please avoid this area and seek alternate routes.
