On Monday, March 9 at about 1:37 a.m., Oakland Police officers on patrol conducted a traffic-enforcement stop on a vehicle in the 800 block of Union Street. The driver got out of the truck and threw a handgun to the ground before he fled the scene. The officers chased after him and were able to arrest him for an illegally possessed firearm. Officers located narcotics and stolen property inside the truck.
On Sunday, March 15 at 6:22 p.m., the Oakland Police Department Communications Section received numerous calls about an individual discharging a firearm on the street. Callers provided a detailed description of the suspect, which was provided to responding patrol officers, who checked the surrounding areas and located the suspect in the 3100 block of Market Street. The suspect was arrested for discharging a firearm and illegal gun possession.

• Always be aware of your surroundings. Don’t be distracted by cell phones and electronic devices;
• Stay in well lit and populated areas;
• Be especially alert when entering and exiting your vehicle;
• Remember to lock your car door after entering your vehicle; and
• If someone or something looks suspicious call the police.
