INCIDENT: St Patrick’s Day Safety Announcement

Saint Patrick’s Day is a time when people get together for fun and festivities. Although it’s not recognized as a holiday, it is commonly associated with the consumption of alcohol during these gatherings. Celebrations will range from parties at the homes of friends and families, to parties at local clubs and restaurants. The vast majority of all serious and fatal crashes on St. Patrick’s Day is the result of drinking and driving. To ensure everyone’s safety while traveling to and from these events, the Marietta Police Department has compiled a list of safety tips for its citizens:
• Don’t Drink and Drive! Even the smallest amount of alcohol can impair a driver that could result in a devastating and life altering event.
• Wear your seat belts. The majority of fatal and serious injury crashes result from drivers and occupants not wearing a seat belt.
• Use a designated driver. Plan ahead if you will be consuming alcohol at a party to have a friend drive you home or use a taxi service.
• Obey the Move Over Law. Police will be out in force this holiday week to ensure your safety. Please ensure theirs by moving over one lane.
The Marietta Police Department Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) and HEAT Officers will be out in force this evening to aggressively crack down on drunk drivers and to ensure the roadways are safe for its citizens.
