Help the Grant County Sheriff's Office build a Patrol K9 Program

Now, more than ever, we need Patrol K9s in Grant County, and the Grant County Sheriff's Office is seeking your help with the funding of a Patrol K9 Program. Patrol K9s provide important crimefighting skills and help protect communities.

It's been over 20 years since the Sheriff's Office has had Patrol K9s. With the changes in criminal activity in Grant County, we need the added skills of trained K9 teams to track down criminals, find explosives, rescue lost or missing persons, locate contraband in correctional facilities and serve as a deterrent to those who may want to assault a deputy.

Patrol K9s are trained to high levels of obedience to their handlers. K9s are extremely valuable tools for crimefighting. Dogs have about 225-million scent receptors (compared to a human's 5-million) so their sense of smell can help save valuable time when searching for criminals, evidence or endangered persons.

Help us build this valuable program through either a sponsorship or monetary donation. We welcome partnerships with our community members and businesses which help Grant County be a safe place to live, work and raise our families.

How to help.

Each of the four K9 Teams will cost about $30,500. This cost includes:

. $16,400 for one fully trained and certified K9, training for the handler, vehicle equipment, transport cage and a 5-year health and working guarantee on the K9;
. $3,000 travel and per-diem per handler;
. $2,700 for a kennel system;
. $900 for a bullet and stab-resistant vest for the K9; and
. $7,500 toward a climate controlled trailer for the four K9s.

The total project cost is $122,000. All donations, big or small, will be greatly appreciated.

Businesses or individuals may choose to fully or partially sponsor the entire cost for a K9. Please contact the Grant County Sheriff's Office to express your wish. 509-754-2011 ext. 2001, or email [email protected].

To say "thank you" to donors for the generous support, the names of the top 50 contributors will be applied in vinyl lettering to the K9 transport trailer.

The K9 Program is an investment in the future of public safety in our communities. We look forward to working with you to bring this valuable service to Grant County.
