Wanted Felon Fires At Police During Warrant Service In Greensburg

Decatur County - - Around 5:00 p.m. the afternoon of March 11th United States Marshals and Indiana State Police Troopers were attempting to serve felony arrest warrants on a suspect in southeast Decatur County.  As the marshals and troopers arrived at the location, the suspect fled on foot into a wooded area.

Troopers from the Versailles State Police Post as well as Decatur County Sheriff Department responded to help search for the suspect. After a few hours of searching, the manhunt was dialed back. During this transition, the suspect emerged from the wooded area and engaged some officers in a gun battle, where several shots were fired. The suspect was hit multiple times. However, no officers were struck by gunfire.

The officers rendered first aid to the suspect. He was transported to Decatur County Hospital by ambulance and then to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The suspect’s condition is not known at the time of this release.

The state police personnel believed to be involved in this shooting incident will be placed on administrative duty during the course of the investigation. This is a customary occurrence for any police officer involved in a police action shooting event.

This is an ongoing investigation and additional information is expected to be released later. At this time, identities of the involved police personnel or suspect will not be released.

No further information is available at this time.
