Deputies catch vehicle prowler during Larson Community sting, solve several recent crimes

MOSES LAKE, Wash. (05MAR2015) – A 17-year-old Moses Lake boy is in custody after being caught by Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies during a Thursday morning sting operation in response to several recent crimes in the Larson Community.

Around 6:40 a.m. today, deputies were hiding in the 1200 block of Arnold Drive hoping to catch a suspect in the act of vehicle prowling. Deputies saw the boy attempt to get into two locked cars. Deputies took the boy into custody, and when they searched him, they found several sets of keys belonging to several previous vehicle prowl victims. The boy also had methamphetamine, marijuana, three knives and a toy handgun.

The boy was also arrested for having a glass pipe and tobacco shredder which were stolen during an overnight burglary of a shed in the Larson Community.

Deputies were also able to connect the boy as a suspect in a Wednesday morning theft of a pickup truck from the 1200 block of Arlington Drive. The pickup was stolen when its owner left it running in the driveway and two youth were seen driving it away. It was recovered a short time later.

The boy was lodged in the Grant County Youth Service facility in Ephrata for suspicion of:

• Possession of methamphetamine,
• Third degree possession of stolen property,
• Possession of a stolen motor vehicle,
• Possession of marijuana, and
• Two counts of second degree attempted vehicle prowling.

“Our deputies do a great job of targeting criminals, and I’m very proud of their efforts and initiative to keep the Larson Community safe,” said Sheriff Tom Jones.
