3/4/15 press release: Larceny from Motor Vehicle

For the past several weeks, members of the Burlington Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit (“SCU”) have been investigating numerous Larceny from Motor Vehicle Incidents in which the suspect broke into vehicles by shattering a side window and stealing people’s personal property. Officers identified Brian Abair (age 48) of Burlington as being responsible for several of the incidents. As part of the investigation, officers executed a search warrant at Abair’s residence in Burlington on February 18, 2015. The search revealed items stolen from 24 different vehicles that had their windows shattered to gain entry. All of the vandalism/larceny incidents occurred in parking lots in various retail/recreational areas in the general Burlington area. As a result of the investigation, Abair was charged with 4 counts of Unlawful Mischief and Petit Larceny, 4 counts of Driving While License Suspended, and 21 counts of Possession of Stolen Property. The victims in these cases were typically female whose purses were stolen, sometimes despite those purses having been hidden. Officers found more than 100 purses, wallets, and backpacks inside Abair’s residence at the time of the search warrant. Abair has a lengthy criminal history and was charged with multiple offenses related to Larceny from Motor Vehicle incidents with shattered windows in 2013. Abair is due in court on March 5, at 830 AM.
Burlington Police reminds people to not leave valuables in their vehicles.
