OSBI Agents Assist Verdigris Police with Homicide Investigation

Late Friday night (2/27), a 911 call was place to the Verdigris Police Department reporting a disturbance at 9256 E. Mulberry Lane. As officers were responding to that call, dispatchers were alerted to a shooting that had occurred at that residence. Once officers arrived, they found William Leathers inside the home with blood over his face, hands, and clothing. Officers then found his wife, Susan Leathers, 32, inside a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the face. She was flown to St. John Hospital in Tulsa where she died. Verdigris police officers located a handgun inside the bedroom where the victim was found. Officers secured the weapon and arrested William Leathers for felon in possession of a firearm. OSBI agents interviewed Leathers about the shooting. He admitted to firing the weapon earlier in the evening and placing it in his pocket. He stated that later in the evening he pulled out the gun and began playing with it and admitted to being the person who shot his wife. Leathers (d.o.b. 7/8/1985) was charged with murder in the first degree.
