There has been a recent upsurge in telephone scams involving individuals using a (202) area code which displays the caller calling from Washington D.C. area, and stating they are calling regarding a Tax Fraud.

The callers are identifying themselves as being with the Department of Legal Affairs and Department of Treasury.  They are leaving messages and when calls are answered the caller advises that the government will arrest them and press charges if they do not send money immediately.

Neither the IRS or any government agency will contact anyone by phone threatening arrest or require money be sent or wired to them.  Any official correspondence from the IRS or Federal Agency is done by mail and they will still not make any threats of arrest or ask for money.
