Update to this morning’s collisions:

This morning officers of the Newark Police Department responded to three different vehicle collisions in the southern portion of the city.

The first collision was reported at 7:25 am on Cherry Street in front of Ohlone College. A solo vehicle collided with a tree. The 65-year-old female driver was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. During the collision investigation all northbound lanes of Cherry Street being closed during the morning commute.

At 8:30 am officers were finishing up with the above listed collision, when a second collision occurred in the southbound lanes of Cherry Street in front of Ohlone College. During this collision investigation, all southbound lanes of Cherry Street were temporarily closed to traffic. A 47-year-old male was transported to an area hospital with a complaint of pain to the chest from the vehicle’s airbags being deployed.

At 9:14 am, officers responded to the intersection of Balentine Drive and Stevenson Boulevard to investigate a third collision where a Jeep sport utility vehicle had rolled over on its roof. One driver had a complaint of pain but was not transported to a hospital.

All three collisions were investigated by the Newark Police Department’s Traffic Division. No drugs or alcohol were associated with any of the collisions. The Newark Police Department thanks our morning commuters for their patience and we apologize for any inconvenience as a result of having Cherry Street closed during this morning’s commute.
