Advisory

Suspect Sought in Theft

(Etowah County, Alabama) A female is being sought in the theft of a wallet from Mountain Top Grocery, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

The victim entered Mountain Top Grocery, located near Altoona at the intersection of Highway 278 West and Highway 179, on Friday morning, February 27, 2015, at approximately 7:30 a.m.

The victim paid for her items and accidentally left her wallet on the counter when she left. Inside the wallet was a substantial amount of money the victim has recently received from her income tax refund.

The next customer, a white female wearing an ‘Alabama’ sweatshirt and blue jeans, entered the store, paid for her items and left. The clerk noticed the wall on the counter and mistakenly thought it belonged to the lady wearing the red sweatshirt. He stopped the customer’s vehicle outside the store and gave her the wallet. She left on Highway 278 heading toward Attalla. The make and model of the car is unknown at this time.

When the victim realized she had forgotten her wallet at the store, she returned to discover the clerk had made a mistake in giving it back to the wrong customer. The clerk is not a suspect in this case.

If anyone can help identify the female in the attached video and photos, please contact Etowah County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Robin Grant at 256-546-2825.

If the lady who took the wallet did so by mistake, she can turn it in to Investigator Grant at the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.
