APD arrest two after Monday evening accident, and evading incident in south Amarillo.
On Monday March 2nd at 6:00pm, Fire Investigator Jacob Diaz with the City of Amarillo’s Fire Marshal’s Office observed a stolen vehicle sitting in a parking lot at 26th & Paramount. As marked units pulled into the parking lot and activated their emergency equipment, the driver of the silver Pontiac G6 took off at a high rate of speed. The suspect turned east bound on 26th; however the officer did not pursue the vehicle. The officer pulled over into a vacant parking lot to talk with the Fire Investigator about the stolen Pontiac, when a citizen pulled up to the officer and told him about an accident that just occurred at 26th and Georgia. The witness reported that a silver sedan had ran the red light and struck two vehicles and left the area. The officer went to check on injuries when he learned that Investigator Diaz check out back at 26th and Brittan with a suspect from the stolen auto. When officers arrived back to the area they found two individuals were being detained. It was later determined that a female witness to the accident at 26th and Georgia, followed the Pontiac as it continued north on Georgia, then back west on Virginia. The Pontiac suffered significant front end damage and came to a stop in the 2800 block of Virginia. The witness saw a W/M and an H/M exit the Pontiac and take off running on foot west towards Brittan. As the witness was following the 2 males, she was able to get two other males subjects from a nearby business to help capture the suspects. Investigator Diaz who was still in the area, also observed the two males running and chased one of the suspects down and held him until officers could arrive. The second subject was chased down by witnesses and held for officers. The driver is identified as Christopher George Wiggin W/M 17 of Amarillo. Wiggin was arrested on charges of Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading Arrest/Detention with Motor Vehicle, and Accident Involving Injury. The passenger is identified as Jesse Manuel Lopez H/M 34 of Booker, Tx.
