Deputies catch man who stole KWWW radio equipment from Monument Hill tower site

QUINCY, Wash. (02MAR2015) – A 30-year-old transient was arrested this morning after he was caught with several thousand dollars in radio equipment stolen from an FM-radio transmitter tower north of Quincy.

Kyle Richard Schulz is lodged in the Grant County Jail on suspicion of second degree burglary, first degree possession of stolen property and possession of a controlled substance.

Early Monday, Cherry Creek Radio in Wenatchee called the Grant PUD because the radio station’s transmitter was out of service, possibly due to a power outage at the Monument Hill tower site.

When PUD linemen arrived, the saw a male in a white Subaru stealing radio equipment and that the vehicle fled southbound. Deputies caught up with the vehicle at Martin Road near Road H-Northeast.

Deputies found about $10,000 in electronic components belonging to Cherry Creek Radio’s KWWW (“KW3”) Wenatchee radio station. Schulz was arrested.

While booking Schulz into jail, Corrections Officers found methamphetamine in his possession.

It was later discovered Schulz was caught on a game camera moving items into the Subaru during an earlier separate burglary that happened in the 6800 block of Martin Road south of Ephrata. That case is under investigation.

“I want to make sure the Grant PUD crew gets the credit they deserve,” said Sheriff Tom Jones. “They got a great description and the license plate of the fleeing car and driver. I think we’re all happy to help get KW3 back on the air.”
