Deputy Jack Gouge of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Cody Lee McKinney, 20, of Lee Drive in Marion, with felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and misdemeanor carrying a concealed weapon.
During a license checkpoint on Sunday, Feb. 8, Gouge and Deputy Doug Phillips noticed a vehicle without a tag.
McKinney, the passenger in the truck, was wanted on a felony probation violation.
During a search of McKinney’s person, Gouge located a 9mm pistol and a .32-caliber revolver. A check of the firearms revealed that the 9mm was allegedly stolen from Yancey County.
