Marietta P.D. Recognized Nationally for Community Outreach Initiatives

“We do these things not to solve problems, but to prevent problems – Chief Dan Flynn”

On December 18, 2014, President Obama signed an Executive Order establishing the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. The Task Force brought together national experts in the major issues concerning policing in order “to identify best practices and make recommendations to the President on how policing practices can promote effective crime reduction while building public trust and examine, among other issues, how to foster strong, collaborative relationships between local law enforcement and the communities they protect.”

On January 30-31, 2015, the task force met to take testimony from the experts in a series of “listening sessions.” As part of that testimony, three police departments were cited as outstanding examples for the Country in terms of police-community relations programs. The three police departments were: The Marietta (GA) P.D., The Austin (TX) P.D., Charlotte Mecklenburg (NC) P.D. There are over 19,000 police departments in the U.S.

Chief Dan Flynn of the Marietta Police Department is deeply honored for the department to receive this distinction and recognition. ‘The men and women of the MPD place a high priority on community outreach and partnering. Through our community programs we reach out to numerous segments of the community we serve. Our programs reach out to Marietta’s students and educational community; minority communities, pastors and the faith community; residents and business communities. In our view, these are all partnership initiatives that build community understanding and trust in the Marietta Police Department and City government.”
