98 Miles per Hour Traffic Stop Yields Arrest

Putnam County—Last evening at 10:10, Indiana State Police Trooper Jonathan Cumbie radar clocked a black 2014 Dodge Avenger at 91 miles-per-hour in a 70 mph zone, westbound Interstate 70 near the 37 mile marker. As Cumbie caught up to the vehicle, the driver accelerated to 98 mph at which time Cumbie activated his emergency lighting. The black Dodge was stopped near the 32mm.

During conversations with the driver and two occupants, Cumbie noticed a smell of suspected marijuana coming from the vehicle’s interior. A search of the vehicle yielded approximately three (3) grams of suspected marijuana and partially burnt marijuana cigarette. The driver failed roadside field sobriety tests and was taken to the Putnam County Hospital for a chemical test, where he tested positive for marijuana.

Arrested Driver: Cameron T. Farris, age 19, Indianapolis, IN.
Incarcerated in Putnam County Jail
Charges: Operating While Intoxicated - Controlled Substance;
Operating While Intoxicated-Endangerment; Reckless
Driving; Possession of Marijuana; plus citation for 98/70

Passengers James J. Jackson, age 18, Indianapolis, IN. and D’Andrea R. Bickham, age 20, Indianapolis, IN. were both cited and released for possession of marijuana.

Assisting was ISP Trooper James Crisp.
