LPD has been alerted to a scam that is going around that involves the use of LPD’s non-emergency phone number, 807-1200. Criminals are “cloning” the number and making it appear that the police department is somehow involved in their scam. The scam of choice right now is people posing as IRS agents and attempting to collect “overdue” taxes. No LPD officer will call trying to collect taxes. If you receive a call, please hang up and do not send any money. If you have questions about tax issues, call an IRS office to inquire, don’t just trust whoever is on the other end of the phone.
