WEEK IN REVIEW

Armed Robbery

On Saturday, Feb. 21st, around 12:45 a.m., Ofc. Jensen was dispatched to the Chevron gas station at 1990 Decoto Rd. on the report of a robbery. A victim was walking from the BART station through the Bank of America parking lot when two suspects approached him and started hitting him. When the victim fought back, one of the suspects hit him with the butt of a handgun. They took his wallet and phone, and fled on foot toward the BART station. The first suspect was described as an Asian male, 20-35 years old, 5’7” to 6’0” with a medium build, and carrying a black semi-automatic handgun. The second suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 20-35 years old, 5’7” to 6’0” with a medium build. Detectives are working on possible leads.

Shooting at Occupied Vehicle

On Wednesday, Feb. 18th, around 8:45 p.m., Ofc. Martin was dispatched to a reported shooting. The victim stated he was driving on Mission Blvd. when he began to argue with another driver. The victim stated that the suspect shot at his vehicle, leaving a bullet hole in the rear bumper. No one was hurt, and the suspect was not located. The suspect was described as an Asian male, 20-23 years old with a heavy build, and a full-sleeve tattoo on his left arm.

Grand Theft – SCAM ALERT

On Tuesday, Feb. 17th, around 6 p.m., Ofc. Leon was dispatched to the police department to meet with the victim of a grand theft. The victim lost $20,000 in a lottery “confidence” scam. The victim stated he was walking on Decoto Rd. when a suspect approached him and asked for help. The suspect said he had a winning lottery ticket, but could not redeem it because he is an illegal immigrant. Another suspect also approached and asked the victim to help them, to which he agreed. One of the suspects used his cell phone to call an unknown phone number; the answering party said she was a state lottery attorney, and the lottery ticket was worth $1 million. The woman on the phone said the suspect would need to provide her with $25,000 as a “good faith” deposit. The suspect said he didn’t have that much money. He asked the victim to provide $20,000, and the suspect would give him $50,000 when he redeemed the lottery ticket. The victim agreed. The suspects drove him to a bank, where he withdrew $20,000 and gave it to them. Shortly after receiving the money, the suspects left the area and were not seen again. Detectives are exhausting all leads in this felony theft case.

The first suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 25-35 years old with medium length black hair. The second suspect was described as a short Hispanic male, 55-65 years old. Their vehicle was described as a light blue van.

Safety Tip: Never give money to people you don’t know! It sounds obvious, but some scam artists are very convincing. For more information, visit this State Department website about financial scams: http://travel.state.gov/content/passports/english/emergencies/scams.html
