Shelburn Man Killed after Striking Commercial Vehicle
Sullivan County—Last night at 10:45, Indiana State Police and Sullivan County emergency agencies responded to the southbound lanes of US 41, just south of County Road 850 North, for a multi-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Sullivan County man.
Deceased: Dirk A. Bose, age 35, of Shelburn, IN.
Deceased at the scene and family has been notified
Preliminary investigation revealed a 2006 Ford Fusion, driven by Bose, was southbound on US 41 in the driving lane and failed to stop or avoid a tractor-trailer that was stopped in the driving lane for a railroad crossing. The Bose vehicle struck the tractor-trailer in the rear. There was no visible evidence of braking by the Bose vehicle prior to the crash. The 2012 Freightliner tractor, driven by 45-year-old Patricia Olshefskie-Prenzlin of Tifton, Ohio, was stopped at the crossing as required by law for hauling explosive material. Ms. Olshefskie-Prenzlin was not injured. The tractor-trailer was registered to Chalich Trucking of Ramsey, MN.
The crash was investigated by ISP Trooper Timothy Henning. Assisting were ISP Troopers Brian Thomas, Tim Rader and Shayne Roman, Indiana State Excise Police Officer Amber VanNess, Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies Josh Cary and Justin Bell, Sullivan County EMS, Sullivan County Coroner Jeff Griffith, and Thunderbird Fire/Rescue.
