Redwood City Police Department Adds Three Officers to its Crisis Intervention Team

Deputy Chief Gary Kirby (Left) and Chief JR Gamez (right) were present at the graduation of three Redwood City Police Officers from the 40-hour Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) course. Officers Jesse Macias, Bill Cagno and Kyle Trinh will join 15 other Redwood City police officers and supervisors who are certified as CIT-trained first responders.

CIT (Crisis Intervention Team) programs are local initiatives designed to improve the way law enforcement and the community respond to people experiencing mental health crises. They are built on strong partnerships between law enforcement, mental health provider agencies and individuals and families affected by mental illness.

The Department continues to increase the number of CIT-trained officers and remains committed to exploring and implementing effective approaches to de-escalating and diffusing conflict involving those affected by mental health concerns.
