ESPD Continues to Encourage Citizens Call 911 to Report Suspicious Activity

El Segundo has seen an increase in property theft crimes over the past few months. These crimes are occurring at all hours of the day. They include bike and other property thefts from front yards and carports/garages, thefts from vehicles, robbery, and residential burglaries. Alert officers, as well as vigilant residents, have led to the arrests of numerous suspects, but many more are going undetected. ESPD encourages anyone who sees something suspicious to call the police immediately.

Examples of suspicious activity include:

• Door-to-door solicitors/salespersons: Residential burglars will sometimes act as solicitors to determine if anyone is home before deciding whether or not to break in. El Segundo requires permits for door-to-door solicitation.

• Individuals standing on the sidewalk on cell phones while nervously looking up and down the street. Most residential burglars will have a lookout outside that they are in communication with via cell phone.

• Subjects on foot looking into vehicles or front/back yards.

• Unfamiliar vehicles driving slowly through the residential area.

• Subjects digging through trash receptacles.

• Any behavior observed that just doesn’t “feel” right to you.
