Incident Summary

Petaluma Police Dispatch received a 911 call that was transferred from the California Highway Patrol (CHP).  The caller reported that they were a victim of a violent assault that took place at a residence in the 1800 block of Castle Drive.  Officers responded to the residence and learned that the suspect was Warren Haley, who had fled the area on foot prior to officers’ arrival.

An investigation revealed Haley had gotten into an argument with the victim. Haley became angry and violently assaulted the victim.  The victim was strangled and her cellular telephone was forcibly taken from her.  It was also learned that Haley had two outstanding Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) warrants that involved a felon being in possession of a firearm.

Based on the violent assault and the warrants involving a felon being in possession of a firearm, Petaluma Police Department’s K-9, Basko, was deployed in the area to locate Haley.  In addition, CHP’s helicopter was requested to assist in the search.

CHP’s helicopter arrived in the area and alerted ground officers of a subject fleeing the area in a creek towards Adobe Road.  The K-9 unit and officers were directed to an area on Adobe Road near Sonoma Mountain Road.  The CHP helicopter radioed that they had last saw the subject go under a bridge.

Officers arrived in the area and shortly thereafter located Haley.  Haley had climbed up under the bridge and concealed himself in a small crawl space area. Once located, Haley refused to comply with officers’ commands. In order to gain Haley’s compliance a Taser was successfully deployed.  Haley was taken into custody without further incident.

Haley was booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
