Chief Bejarano elected President of the California Police Chiefs Association.

Chula Vista Police Chief David Bejarano will be installed as president of the California Police Chiefs Association (CPCA) for a one-year term, on February 25, 2014, at its 38th Annual Training Symposium, at the Riverside Convention Center. Chief Bejarano brings a wealth of experience to the position of president of CPCA. He served as the Chief of the San Diego Police Department, and as the United States Marshal (presidential appointment) for the Southern District of California. Chief Bejarano was appointed to the CPCA Board of Directors in 2011 and was elected second vice president in 2013.

"I am honored to lead the California Police Chiefs Association this year. We will continue to address issues related to the implementation of Public Safety Realignment, the passage of Proposition 47, and the recent turmoil surrounding national use of force issues. The association has an aggressive legislative agenda, which includes continuing to sponsor proactive medical marijuana regulation legislation to protect public safety, and reduce the harm currently unfolding in our state due to the lack of regulation. I look forward to working with my colleagues on these and many other issues that impact the safety of California citizens," said Chief Bejarano.

Chief Bejarano has always been committed to strong public safety through effective community partnerships. The San Diego Police Department received numerous awards for their Community Policing efforts under his leadership and he was an early advocate of Police Community Advisory Boards and body worn cameras, which the Chula Vista Police Department has implemented.

He has served in leadership positions on local, state, and national boards including the International Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Committee and the California Police Chiefs Association Executive Board, and also served as President of the San Diego County Chiefs and Sheriffs Association.

Chief Bejarano obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from National University and is also a graduate of the National FBI Academy and FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar. Collectively, these achievements and experiences make Chief Bejarano well suited to lead the California Police Chiefs Association during a challenging year for public safety departments and local government. "I look forward to the challenges facing law enforcement this year and will work collaboratively on the key legislative and public safety issues facing the profession," said Chief Bejarano.

The California Police Chiefs Association represents the state's municipal police chiefs whose agencies protect over 26 million Californians.
