**2nd UPDATE** #LASD Norwalk Station Detectives Arrest Felony Hit And Run Suspect.

******2nd UPDATE******

On Monday, February 23, 2015, leads from the public that were generated by media coverage lead to the identification of the vehicle involved in this collision. The vehicle is a 1998 Ford E-450 bus, registered to a Pico Rivera resident. The owner is cooperating with the investigation. The vehicle is being held as evidence at a local tow yard. 

 

On Tuesday, February 24, 2015, 9:00 a.m., the suspect in this case (Tommy Anthony Gutierrez, MH/37 years old, resident of City Terrace) surrendered himself to Detectives at Norwalk Sheriff Station. He was booked for felony hit and run and driving on a suspended license, and is being held on $50,000 bail. On the advice of his attorney, he gave no statement.

 

The suspect was positively identified yesterday by several people who were on the bus at the time of the incident, and by the owner of the bus. These witnesses came forward due to the extensive media coverage in this case.

Incident Date: Saturday, February 21, 2015

Incident Time: 2:31 AM

Incident Location: Fairford Avenue, south of Ratliffe Street, Norwalk

Victim: 26-Year-old Male

Suspect: Unknown

Unit: Norwalk Station Detective Bureau

Narrative:

The victim was walking on Fairford Ave when he was struck by the suspect's vehicle, which was driving southbound. The victim was dragged by the vehicle for over two hundred feet and suffered major injuries. The victim is in intensive care at a local hospital.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black “party bus”, this type of vehicle is rented out by groups for special events. As the suspect's vehicle drove past the witness, he saw that the interior neon lights were flashing, and heard music coming from inside. The vehicle was last seen turning westbound on Foster Road and out of view.

We are looking for witnesses to come forward that were either on the above “party bus”, or have knowledge of any similar vehicle that may have been in the Norwalk area at or near the indicated time.
