On February 20, 2015, detectives with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office met with District Attorney Ted Bell and his assistant district attorneys to discuss the ongoing investigation of the murder of a five month old baby that was found deceased on January 11, 2015. After hearing the evidence of the case, District Attorney Ted Bell advised to charge Tyler Dale McCurry with murder, and charge Jennie Reynolds, the child’s mother, with accessory after the fact to murder.

On Monday, February 23, 2015, Detective Sgt. Jamie Keever presented the case to a Rutherford County magistrate and probable cause for arrest was found for McCurry and Reynolds. Subsequently, detectives and narcotics investigators with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office began searching for McCurry and Reynolds. At approximately 4:45 PM on February 23, 2015, Detective Sgt. Jamie Keever and Det. Jimmy Upton with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office spotted Tyler McCurry driving on West Main Street in Forest City. Sgt. Keever and Det. Upton conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Church Street and Main Street in Forest City. Tyler McCurry and Jennie Reynolds, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were taken into custody for the above charges without any incident. Deputy Whitney Hunter arrived on scene to assist in the search and transport of Reynolds. After a search incident to arrest, Deputy Hunter seized methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, resulting in additional charges.

Tyler Dale McCurry was served with the murder warrant and received no bond for the charge. Jennie Reynolds was charged with accessory after the fact to murder, two counts of possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of schedule IV controlled substance. Reynolds received a $400,000 dollar secured bond. Both McCurry and Reynolds will have a first appearance on February 24, 2015 in Rutherford County District Court.

Sheriff Chris Francis would like to thank District Attorney Ted Bell and his office, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the many investigators of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office who have worked diligently on this case.
