Compton Man Found Guilty of Murdering Pregnant Girlfriend, Burying Her in Backyard (KTLA)

KTLA Reports:

A 23-year-old Compton man was found guilty Friday of killing his pregnant girlfriend and burying her in the backyard.

Jurors deliberated for one day before finding Devion Keith Anderson guilty of two counts of second-degree murder in the 2013 slayings of 18-year-old Maria Gonzalez and her fetus, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation began on Dec. 23, 2013, when deputies received a 911 call from a family member at Anderson’s home, claiming the defendant may have killed and buried Gonzalez, the release stated.

Arriving deputies found freshly dug dirt in the backyard and upon further excavation discovered the girlfriend’s body, according to the release.

A few hours later, Anderson surrendered at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Compton station.

The coroner determined Gonzalez died by strangulation and that she was 14 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, the DA’s Office stated.

Anderson was scheduled to be sentenced March 26.

He faced a possible maximum sentence of 30 years to life in state prison.
