Municipal Court to begin yearly effort to clear up outstanding traffic warrants...

The Amarillo Police Department, in conjunction with the City of Amarillo Municipal Court, will be participating in the Texas State Warrant Roundup.  Beginning today, 2-24-2015, people with outstanding Amarillo Municipal Court warrants will be receiving warrant notice postcards in the mail. These cards inform people that have outstanding municipal warrants to contact the court and clear up the warrants before APD officers begin serving the warrants.
Beginning Monday, March 9th, the Amarillo Police Department will assign police officers to find the people with outstanding warrants. These uniformed officers will locate people at their homes, places of employment, or wherever they can be contacted.
Victoria Medley, City of Amarillo Municipal Court Administrator, said that there are currently 35,070 Municipal Court warrants outstanding.   Last year, 3565 warrants were cleared during Warrant Round Up.

The Municipal Court will be open Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM. On Thursdays, the court remains open until 7:00 PM.
The public can view a complete list of all Municipal Court warrants on the City of Amarillo’s Municipal Court web page,
http://amarillo.gov/municipalcourt Select “Court Issued Warrants” from the menu on the right side of the page.  That page will provide information about when a warrant is issued and how to resolve the warrant.  At the bottom of the page is a link to a list of all active warrants. There is also a direct link to all active warrants on the courts web page titled “Warrant List Database”.
Traffic and parking citation fines, including those with warrants, can be paid online by selecting “Traffic Citation Online Payment Service” from the same menu or by selecting “Pay Now” included on the warrant list database.

The Municipal Court has received information about reported “scams” reported in other jurisdictions in Texas in which people posing as police, court, or city employees contact people with outstanding traffic citations and attempt to secure payment over the phone.  They do so by asking the person with outstanding warrants for bank, credit card, or other financial information.  Neither the City of Amarillo nor the Amarillo Police Department will ever ask you for any financial information over the phone.  The will never allow you to make arrangement to pay any ticket or warrant charges over the phone.   If you are contacted by anyone that informs you that you have an outstanding warrant AND asks to arrange payment over the telephone, it is an attempt to defraud you.  Hang up immediately.
If you have questions about outstanding warrants, call the Municipal Court at 378-9342.
