(Etowah County, Alabama) A Gadsden man has been arrested and charged in connection to a domestic violence incident, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Joel Matthew Hicks, 27, of Altoona, was arrested on February 11, and charged with one count of domestic violence by suffocation/strangulation, which is a felony,” says investigator Bobby Bryant.

Hicks and the victim were in a verbal argument when he allegedly placed his hands around the victim’s neck causing the victim to pass out.

Hicks was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on $5,000 property bond.
