Advisory

Wind Chill Advisory in effect from 7 p.m. this evening to 11 a.m. Friday

Bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills are expected tonight into Friday. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory from 7 p.m. this evening until 11 a.m. Friday.

Low temperatures may drop below zero tonight with wind chill values ranging from 10 below to 15 below zero. High temperatures will only rise into the teens on Friday then fall to near zero Friday night.

The low wind chills may lead to frostbite and hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Water pipes that are marginally near freezing will freeze solid tonight and then damage will develop in the subsequent thaw.

Please take extra precaution when venturing outdoors tonight and tomorrow. Dress in layers with the outer layer of your clothing tightly woven and preferably wind resistant, to reduce body-heat loss caused by the wind. Stay out of the wind when possible. Drink plenty of fluids since hydration increases the blood’s volume, which helps prevent frostbite.

Be sure to check on your elderly family members and neighbors.

Also, keep your pets warm and indoors. No matter the temperature, wind chill can threaten a pet’s life. Pets are sensitive to severe cold and are at risk for frostbite when outdoors during extreme cold.
