Seymour Man Killed Two Injured In Head-On Collision In North Vernon
North Vernon – A Seymour man was killed and two North Vernon residents were injured after a head-on collision on US 50 near CR 240 W.
According to Indiana State Police Trooper Matt Holley, on February 17, 2015 around 05:30 PM a two vehicle head-on collision occurred between a gray 2009 Toyota SUV and a red 1998 Chevy truck on US 50 near CR 240 W. The Toyota SUV was traveling west on US 50 when for unknown reason it crossed the center line and into the east lane where it struck the Chevy truck head-on. The Toyota SUV was lifted into the air and landed on top of the Chevy truck entrapping occupants in both vehicles.
Michael D. Healy 25, of Seymour, driver of the Toyota SUV was taken to Jennings Hospital after he was extricated from the SUV. Healy was pronounced dead at the hospital. Steven L. Luedeman 61, of North Vernon, driver of the Chevy truck was entrapped and flown to University of Louisville Hospital after he was extricated from the truck. Luedeman’s injury status is unknown. A passenger in the Chevy truck, Shacey M. Root 17, of North Vernon was flown to University of Louisville Hospital as well after being extricated from the truck. Her injuries are believed to be non-life threatening.
Another motorist had observed the Toyota SUV passing several vehicles moments before the crash.
ISP Trooper Matt Holley and Trooper Brent Lykins are investigating this crash. They were assisted at the scene by Jennings County Sheriff Department, Jennings County EMS and Vernon Township Fire Department.
