State Police respond to 176 crashes in the Indianapolis Metro area today

Light snow moved into the Indianapolis Metro area just before rush hour this morning. The snow continued to fall, mostly south of I-70 throughout the day. Troopers from the Indianapolis Post responded to 176 crashes, 26 of which resulted in injuries. None of the reported injuries were life threatening. There were also 18 vehicle slide offs.

It appears unsafe speed was the common factor today in most of the crashes. State Highway responded with salt trucks to the area however the constant snowfall made the roadways hazardous for most of the day. Additional ISP Troopers were called in early for their shifts and others responded while on a day off.

Please remember to reduce your speed during winter weather and allow plenty of following distance between you and the car ahead. Driving conditions can rapidly deteriorate creating hazardous conditions without warning.
