Alert

WELL BELOW ZERO WIND CHILLS LATE SATURDAY NIGHT INTO SUNDAY AND DAMAGING WINDS LIKELY LATER SATURDAY INTO SUNDAY

Good evening.  The following is a briefing from the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington:

Threat: Potential Saturday 2/14 through Wednesday 2/18:

     * Light snow accumulations likely for most areas Saturday.

     * Well below Zero Wind Chills Late Saturday Night into Sunday.

     * Damaging Winds Likely later Saturday into Sunday.

     * Accumulating Snowfall Possible Tuesday into Wednesday of Next Week.

A powerful cold front will sweep across the Middle Atlantic Region on Saturday. The potential exists for a light accumulation of snow to develop from west to east Saturday afternoon into Saturday evening.  Snow showers or snow squalls combined with strong winds could lead to sudden reduced visibilities and slippery travel.

Very strong winds are expected to develop across the region Saturday evening and continue into Sunday. Sustained Northwest Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected. Winds of this magnitude could down trees and power lines leading to power outages.

The combination of strong winds and very cold temperatures will likely cause wind chills to fall well below zero Saturday night into Sunday. Wind chills could fall to -20 to -30 degrees well north and west of the metro areas and -5 to -15 degrees for the immediate DC and Baltimore metro areas south to Southern Maryland.

A complex low pressure system could approach the Middle Atlantic Region next Tuesday bringing the potential for accumulating snowfall. There remains uncertainty with the exact track of this potential system.

Instructions:

STAY INDOORS IF AT ALL POSSIBLE AND IF YOU MUST GO OUT MAKE SURE TO DRESS IN LAYERS AND COVER EXPOSED SKIN.
