DATE OF RELEASE: February 14, 2015
On February 13, 2015 at 10:46 pm, the West Covina Police Department responded to a call of a traffic collision that occurred in the 2700 block of E. Hillside Drive, West Covina. Arriving officers found a 2012 Honda Sedan occupied by three males that had come to rest against a wall. The rear passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. It appears the victim had not been wearing his safety belt. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin. The driver and front passenger were not seriously injured.
The vehicle had been traveling westbound on Hillside Drive when it hit the curb and collided into a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn.
The driver, identified as Felipe Lamas-Spino, 27 of Baldwin Park was arrested at the scene. He was booked for Felony Driving Under the Influence and Vehicular Manslaughter and is being held on $100,000.00 bail. He is scheduled to appear at West Covina Superior Court on Wednesday, February 18, 2015.
