Oakland, CA — On February 13, 2015 at 9:42 AM, two Oakland Police officers assigned to the Patrol Division in the area of 88th Avenue and E Street were flagged down by a woman who reported that an adult male with a knife was acting erratically nearby.
The officers located the man in the 1000 block of 88th Avenue. The officers exited their vehicle to continue the investigation. The man was armed with the knife and a confrontation ensued. One of the officers discharged his duty pistol at the armed subject, striking him. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and transported the subject to a local hospital where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
No officers were injured during this incident. Both officers were equipped with body worn cameras. Investigators will determine if the incident was recorded.
The investigation is ongoing and the Oakland Police Department continues to process the scene.
Consistent with Departmental policy, this officer involved shooting must be investigated by the Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section and the Department’s Internal Affairs Division. Information remains preliminary at this time.
