Burglary Suspect Arrested Near Palm Avenue/Virginia Street This Morning
On 2/13/15 at approximately 8:38 am, an alert citizen called ESPD to report a suspicious male walking back and forth in the neighborhood for 20 minutes in the area of Mariposa Avenue/Whiting Street. Officers searched the area and found the man, Jonathan Portillo, in the alley west of the 600 block of Virginia Street. Portillo was walking out of an attached carport area and was wearing what appeared to be a girl’s grey backpack with the letters “JRB” embroidered in pink on it. During questioning, Portillo said he found the backpack in Manhattan Beach. Portillo, a resident of Inglewood, was arrested on the suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property. ESPD is trying to locate the owner of the backpack (containing miscellaneous electronic equipment) and determine if Portillo committed other crimes.
Portillo is a male Hispanic adult, 24 years old, 5’8”, 145 lbs, and was wearing a blue LA Dodger baseball cap, blue short sleeve t-shirt with white stars and blue pants at the time of his arrest.
This is a good case of “See Something... Say Something” and the cooperative efforts of the alert citizen and ESPD led to the arrest of a suspected criminal.
