Traffic Stop Leads to Wanted Person and Drugs

Crawfordsville-On February 12, 2015 at approximately 12:49 a.m. on Lafayette Avenue and Grant St. in Crawfordsville, IN Trooper Clayton Gum stop a vehicle for a traffic violation and discovered drugs and a wanted person.

Trooper Gum initiated a traffic stop on a tan Buick La Sabre for a traffic violation. Trooper Gum approached the driver’s side and asked to see a license and registration. The driver later identified Marvin S. Kiger, 44 from Crawfordsville was found later to be suspended. After requesting assistance from the Crawfordsville Police Department, he asked the driver and then the front seat passenger to exit the vehicle. The front seat passenger, later identified as Dayne B. Joseph 39 of Westville, IN was found to have alleged drugs in his possession. While Trooper Gum attempted to arrest Joseph, he took off running. Trooper gum had a short foot pursuit and was able to restrain Joseph. It was later revealed that there was an active warrant out of Benton County on him.

Drugs and other paraphernalia were allegedly found in the vehicle. The back seat passenger Krystal S. Harwood, 30 of New Ross, IN was also placed into custody. All three were transported to the Montgomery County Jail and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance –Methamphetamine. Harwood was also charged with Possession of a Controlled substance-Schedule 4 Substance and a Misdemeanor charge of Possession of Marijuana. Joseph was additionally charged with Resisting Law Enforcement and Possession of Paraphernalia. The investigation is continuing.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
