Motorist Stopped For Impeding Traffic Flow Yields Drug Seizure

Seymour – A motorist stopped for impeding the flow of traffic on I-65 was arrested after troopers located drugs inside the vehicle.

On February 09, 2015 around 3:39 PM, Indiana State Police Trooper Randel Miller observed a red 2003 Honda Accord traveling north on I-65 in the left (passing) left going below the 70 mph speed limit. Other motorists were passing him by use of the right (driving) lane. However, the driver of the Honda remained in the left lane causing other motorists to go around him on the right. Trooper Miller stopped the red Honda near the 52 mm where he identified the driver as John C. Stevens 34, of Sheridan, Indiana. After determining some criminal indicators, Trooper Miller completed an exterior walk around the Honda using ISP K-9 “Jinx”. The K-9 alerted to an odor of drugs coming from the car. A subsequent search of the Honda by Trooper Miller and Trooper Stephen Wheeles yielded three grams of marijuana, three grams of crystal meth, a scale and a small amount of high grade marijuana. A false compartment used specifically to conceal drugs was also located inside the vehicle.

Stevens was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail where he was incarcerated. Stevens is facing a charge of Possession of Methamphetamine, a Level 6 Felony and Possession of Marijuana, a Class B Misdemeanor.
