Two Injured in Miami County School Bus Crash

Miami County – Today at approximately 7:55 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on State Road 19 near Miami County Road 300 South, in which two people were injured.

The preliminary crash investigation by Master Trooper Joe Swisher revealed that Teresa Wahlig, 52, Peru, IN, was driving a 2002 Thomas School bus southbound on State 19. As the bus was slowing down to pick up students at 3069 South State 19, it was rear ended by 1998 Dodge 1500 pickup truck. The truck was driven by Todd McFarland, 25, Peru, IN.

McFarland was transported by ambulance to Dukes Hospital with a cut on his chin. Tyler Parades, 18, a student on the bus, was also transported to Dukes Hospital. He had a complaint of shoulder pain and a cut on his chin.

This crash is still under investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash. Both drivers in the crash were wearing seat belts. McFarland was issued a citation for following another vehicle too closely.

The bus was from the Maconaquah School Corporation. At the time of the crash there were 40 students on the bus. Parades was the only student injured.
