The Montebello Police Athletic & Activities League (PAAL) Receives
Community Grant through Support from Dow Chemical

MONTEBELLO, California (February, 2015) – The Montebello Police Athletic & Activities League (PAAL) is the recipient of a Keep America Beautiful Community Paint Donation Program grant, Montebello Police Chief Kevin McClure announced today.

National nonprofit Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and Dow (NYSE: DOW) launched the merit-based community grant program to support KAB affiliates’ efforts to build and sustain vibrant communities at a local level. Grant awards are being used to purchase paint that features innovative raw materials provided by Dow Coating Materials.

The “Build with a PAAL” project is a community driven, volunteer-based effort building improvement to refresh a community facility and to provide local youth with an additional safe haven for recreation, athletic, and other activities. Youth participants in the PAAL programs come from all over the region and are provided services at low to no cost. No participant is ever turned away based on their ability to pay. PAAL provides resources and opportunities to youth while also building the relationship between local law enforcement and the community. The Montebello PAA is an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

In October 2014, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) held a National Policy Summit on Community-Police Relations and emphasized the significance of early, positive engagement by law enforcement with youth. Per Chief McClure, “as a result of this summit, the IACP issued a report which made very clear the importance of youth and juvenile programs, specifically mentioning the PAL/PAAL and Police Explorer Programs. The Montebello Police Department is proud of the fact that we are ahead of the curve and already have outstanding youth programs in place to benefit the relationships that we have with our community.”

Dow is continuing to demonstrate its commitment to making a difference in communities where it has a presence by donating materials for approximately 2,500 formulated gallons of 100 percent acrylic interior paint for community improvement projects that KAB affiliates and Great American Cleanup participating organizations initiate in Dow communities.

Dow is in its seventh year as a national sponsor of Keep America Beautiful’s Great American Cleanup. Dow is anticipating more than 1,000 Dow employees and their families and friends will volunteer at more than 60 locations during the 2014 GAC, with activities ranging from park restorations and litter cleanups to prescription drug/household hazardous waste take-back programs and painting projects.
