Kasey Grindstaff, of Old Fort, charged with harboring a fugitive, Mitchell Gilliland 
Detective Paul Alkire of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Kasey Elaine Grindstaff, 26, of Grindstaff Lane in Old Fort, with felony harboring a fugitive.
Alkire said Grindstaff had been hiding 24-year-old Mitchell Lee Gilliland, of Marion, at her residence.
Gilliland was apprehended last week following a year-long run from the law. He was wanted for several felony and misdemeanor charges in McDowell and Burke counties.
“We had been to her house on multiple occasions and warned her that, if she was hiding him, she was going to be charged,” said Alkire.
He stated that authorities spotted Gilliland leaving Grindstaff’s house on Tuesday, Feb. 3, the day Gilliland was arrested.
The two are friends, and Alkire said Gilliland had probably been in Grindstaff’s home for several weeks.
