WEEK IN REVIEW

Assault with Deadly
On Thursday, Jan. 29th, around 7:30 p.m., Ofc. Seto and Ofc. Olson were dispatched to the 2600 block of Parkside Dr. on reports of a carjacking. Ultimately, it was determined that a known suspect brandished a handgun and then intentionally rammed a victim’s vehicle during a confrontation. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Criminal Threats
On Tuesday, Jan. 27th, around 5:40 p.m., Ofc. Geldermann and Ofc. Ramos were dispatched to an apartment in the 34800 block of 11th St. on reports of a spousal battery. It was determined that no physical battery had taken place, but that the suspect had threatened to kill the victim. The suspect refused to comply with police demands and exit the residence. He finally exited after several hours. He also threatened to kill a prisoner transport officer on his way to jail. Arrested was 27-year-old Louis Ortiz, a Union City resident.

On Sunday, Feb. 1st, around 6:20 p.m., Ofc. Blanchard was dispatched to Parkside Apartments, 1501 Decoto Rd., on reports of an assault with a glass bottle. The suspect was going through dumpsters in the apartment complex. When confronted by the victim, the suspect threw a glass beer bottle at him (but missed) and began threatening him and cursing at him in an aggressive manner. William Mayes, a 49-year-old male, Union City resident, was arrested for criminal threats.

BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Jan. 26th through Sunday, Feb. 1st, there was one reported residential burglary and one attempt:
• 2600 block of Central Ave.: Occurred on Friday, Jan. 30th, between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Entry was made via a kick to the front door. The loss is unknown at this time.
• 2600 block of Royal Ann Dr. (attempt only): Occurred Tuesday, Jan. 27th, around 10 a.m. The victim was home when someone attempted entry via a bathroom window. The suspect fled, but was apprehended by police and positively identified by the victim. The 16-year-old male, Hayward resident, was charged with attempted burglary and released to his father.

From Monday, Jan. 26th through Sunday, Feb. 1st, there was one reported auto burglary and two reported commercial burglaries.

From Monday, Jan. 26th through Sunday, Feb. 1st, there were seven reported vehicle thefts. As of the time of this report, five of the vehicles have been recovered.

On Thursday, Jan. 29th, the Union City PD had a swearing-in ceremony for its newest officers. Chief Darryl McAllister administered the oath of office to Ofc. Ninja Allen, Ofc. Terrence Olson, Ofc. Nicolas Perry, Ofc. Ryan Ramos, and Ofc. Ronny Ziya.
